Use AI Scribe to dictate notes

Dictate during the consult, then move the transcript into your SOAP note. Browser support, microphone access and languages.

In the appMedical records → visit → AI Scribe3 sections

AI Scribe sits next to the SOAP notes in every open visit. It turns your speech into text using your browser's built-in speech recognition, so you can talk through the history, findings and plan and then drop the text into the right section.

Before you start

  • Use a supported browser. Dictation works best in an up-to-date Chrome or Edge on a computer, tablet or Android phone. Safari also supports it. If your browser doesn't, Vetlyn tells you and you can type or paste into the transcript box instead.
  • Allow the microphone. The first time you press Start dictation, the browser asks for microphone access. Choose Allow. If you blocked it by mistake, click the padlock or site settings icon next to the address bar, set Microphone to Allow, and reload the page.
  • Stay online. In most browsers, speech recognition needs an internet connection.
  • Use a decent microphone. A headset or a clip-on mic gives far better results than a laptop microphone across the room.

Dictate

  1. Open the visit and find the AI Scribe card.
  2. Choose the Language: English (US, UK, India or Australia), Urdu, Hindi, Arabic, Spanish, French or German.
  3. Press Start dictation. A red Listening badge appears and text fills the Transcript box as you talk.
  4. Press Stop dictation when you're done. You can edit the transcript like any text box.

Add it to the SOAP note

  1. Select part of the transcript, or leave nothing selected to use all of it.
  2. Under Add transcript (or selected text) to, press Subjective, Objective, Assessment or Plan. The text is added to the end of that field.
  3. Repeat for each section, then read through the note before signing.

Press Save transcript to keep the raw transcript with the visit. After signing, it's shown under the locked notes.

Good to know

Always check drug names, doses and numbers. Speech recognition can mishear clinical terms.

Vetlyn doesn't record or store audio, only the text you save. In Chrome and Edge, the browser's own speech service processes the audio to produce the text.

Today, AI Scribe transcribes; it doesn't write the SOAP note for you. AI-drafted SOAP notes from the transcript are on our roadmap.
